As a child, I was always interested in learning new things. I knew from a very early age on that education was the key to freedom. I would watch the Discovery Channel, the History channel, and KERA--the local PBS station. I also enjoyed watching the news, and, eventually pursued a bachelor's degree in Broadcast News Journalism. I realized that being the best at something may not always be your first passion. While in college, I loved to tutor and help people with their homework. I decided to reroute my career and become a teacher.
Just as I was very much interested in the news reporting industry, children will also have various interests, and I think it's important to keep those interests in mind as they learn from any content area. I always strive to incorporate the interest of the children in mathematics so that they will stay interested and ready to learn what I am teaching them.
